The Thistle
Medium: Transparent watercolor
To many people, thistles are little more than prickly weeds. To Rosalie, they are a symbol of home, resilience, and beauty.
This bouquet was gathered during a walk with her husband, and brought home to paint. The flowers also hold a special place in Rosalie's heart because when they first purchased their farm decades ago, the pastures were filled with towering thistles—some nearly the size of Christmas trees. Inspired by those unforgettable plants, they named their property Thistle Hill Farm, and Rosalie later named her workspace Thistle Hill Studio.
Painted in transparent watercolor, The Thistle celebrates the unexpected beauty found in nature. Like the plant itself, it reminds us that strength and resilience often come with a few sharp edges.
